Even when this eventually gets patched it still might not be able to read the movie format and or the file system on the usb stick.

There actually used to be a way to access the c windows directory read only by creating a shortcut to it on a pc then copying it over with a usb and the shortcut would work in the file explorer app. That was patched out but the ability to copy files still works. The xbox 360 let me watch downloaded movies from a flash drive but i can t figure out how to do it on xbox one if it s even possible.

I don t believe xbox one can read from external storage yet. So i downloaded lots of movies in 2160p x265 10 bit and loaded them all onto an external usb drive and into my xb1x. If you have a usb flash drive or external drive you can use it to play videos on the xbox one.

Thanks to everyone who responded as well. Copying files from a usb does work. If you have a windows pc your usb drive will work on your xbox one as long as your windows pc can read it.

Ill just put the movie i want to watch on a flash drive and use the other usb slot to watch it on my xbox. Possible to watch 2160p movies from an external usb drive. The drive must be formatted in fat16 fat32 exfat or ntfs.

I just got an xb1x and a 4k projector been saving all year and dying to watch some 4k movies. The xbox one supports usb 1 usb 2 and usb 3 drives.
